Massive Combing

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM:  The Rural police arrested around 500 persons in connection with various criminal cases during a combing operation held on Sunday. The arrested persons included seven ‘wanted’ criminals accused of theft, atrocities against women and robbery charges. The others who landed in the police net included those charged with drunken driving, disrupting public order and other traffic violations.

As many as 2,000 persons were booked for basic traffic violations, including not wearing seat-belts and helmets. As many as 165 driving licences were sent to Motor Vehicles Department for cancellation.

The key arrested person during the combing has been identified as Gireesh Kumar. He had been charged with assaulting his wife for dowry and attempting to kill her.  In another case, Shyamkumar, 33, was arrested while selling ganja to school students.
