THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: A total of 210 films from around 35 countries will be screened as part of the 8th International Documentary and Short Film Festival of Kerala (IDSFK) to be held in the city from June 26 to 30.
Animation films will be the focus of this edition of IDSFK. Workshops and master classes will be part of the festival, said Rajeev Nath, chairman, Kerala State Chalachitra Academy, the organisers of the festival. The films will be screened at Kairali, Sree and Nila theatres in the city.
The five-day festival has three international competition categories in short fiction, documentary and music video. A state-level competition in campus film category is another highlight of the film. As many as 124 films have been selected in various competition categories from the 700 entries. Around 140 filmmakers representing films in various categories will be part of the festival.
Films by Amit Dutta, renowned experimental filmmaker, will be screened in ‘Filmmaker in Focus’ section. Dutta, who made his first feature while he was still studying at the National Film and Television Institute, is known for his distinctive style: his immersive sound design, his attention to minute environmental details and his willingness to linger in a space waiting for a disruption.
His 10 films will be screened under this section. The films include ‘Chitrasala’, ‘Even Red Can be Sad’, ‘Field Trip’, ‘Future of Cinema’, ‘Gita Govinda’, ‘Jangarh Film-one’, ‘Niansukh’, ‘Ramkhind’, ‘The Museum of Imagination: A Portrait of Absentia’ and ‘The Seventh Walk.’
This edition’s ‘Country in Focus’ will be Korea and a string of quality Korean films made in 2014-15 will be screened under this section. The jury includes Audrius Stonys, Ari Allansson, Altaf Maseed, R V Ramani, Ashok Viswanathan and Venu.
Delegate registration for the festival has started at www.iffk.in. Registration should be done online and the payment can be remitted at any SBT branch after five hours. Delegate fee of Rs 125, inclusive of bank service charges, can be paid through SBT branches all over India. Delegates who already have visitor page account can login with the same account. Passes can be collected from Chalachitra Academy office at Sasthamangalam till June 25 and later from the delegate cell at the venue directly.
