THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Noted economist Prof Sally Wallace will speak at a one-day programme on ‘Behavioural economics in public finance’ at the Senate Chamber of the Kerala University on Wednesday.
The lecture is scheduled for 10:30 am and is being organised by the Kerala Economic Association and Kerala University’s School of Distance Education. Sally Wallace is at present the Professor of Economics and Chair of the Andrew Young School of Policy Studies, Georgia State University, US, and, director, Fiscal Research Centre.
Wallace’s research covers state, federal and international taxation, fiscal federalism and economic modelling. She has worked in several countries including China and India, former Soviet republics of Kazakhstan, Uzbekistan and Ukraine, the Russian Federation, Guyana and Guatemala, and the African countries of South Africa, Egypt, Tanzania and Ghana.
KEA is a forum of teachers of economics, professionals and researchers in the area. “Behavioural economics increases the explanatory power of economics by providing it with more realistic psychological foundations. Behavioural economics is a very advanced area in economics and challenges the neoclassical theories of economics,” KEA president and director, School of Distance Education, Prof S Irudaya Rajan, said in a statement.
Prof Amit Shovon Roy, director, Centre for Development Studies, will chair the seminar. KEA founder president Prof M A Oommen also will be present on the occasion.
