THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: In a bid to curb criminal activities, the state police arrested as many as 508 people on Saturday as part of Operation Suraksha.
A press note issued by the Kerala police said that as many as 181 persons were arrested in Thiruvananthapuram, while 38 were nabbed in the Kochi range, 100 in the Thrissur range and 189 in the Kannur range. The district-wise list is as follows: Thiruvananthapuram city - 06; rural- 39; Kollam city - 116; Pathanamthitta - 20; Alappuzha -02; ; Kochi city -29; rural - 07; Thrissur city - 24; Thrissur rural - 23; Palakkad - 40; Malappuram - 13; Kozhikode city - 22; rural - 40; Wayanad -21; Kannur - 75 and Kasargod - 31.
The state police chief said that stringent action will be taken against those involved in antisocial activities. He added that the public can inform the police about such criminals through the toll-free number 1090.
Anti-tobacco Raids Smoke out 51
As many as 51 persons were arrested on Saturday by the police in the state for selling tobacco products and drugs to school and college students.
According to police officials, all these persons were nabbed in the 69 raids that were carried out by under the drive against tobacco products. With these arrests, the total number of accused has gone upto 8,670 in the anti-tobacco drive. Around 8,898 cases were registered from 36,679 raids. State police chief, said that public should notify police by contacting the control room.
