Final Call on Light Metros Only After Bypoll: KMRL

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: A final call on light metro projects for Thiruvananthapuram and Kozhikode will be taken once Aruvikkara by-election is over.

The director board of Kerala Mono Rail Corporation (KMCL) which met on Wednesday discussed different aspects of the detailed project report submitted by the Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC).

The name change of SPV from KMCL to Kerala Rapid Transit Corporation Ltd (KRTL) was also discussed. E Sreedharan, principal advisor to DMRC, was not present on the occasion. Though the Finance Department and chief secretary had some reservations on the project, the government has decided to go ahead with the project.

The Chief Minister made it clear that the detailed project report (DPR) submitted by the DMRC will be accepted by the Cabinet once the bypoll is over. “It could not be tabled in the Cabinet as the election code of conduct is in force,” he said.

The Chief Minister also sought the co-operation of various departments in materialising the light metro project. PWD Minister V K Ebrahimkunju, KMCL Managing Director Sheik Pareeth also attended the meeting.
