THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Various organisations in the city pitched in with their programmes for the maiden International Yoga Day celebrations on Sunday.
Regular practice yoga leads to a healthy lifestyle, State Police Chief T P Senkumar said.
He was speaking after inaugurating the Yoga Day observance organised by the Police Department at the Chandrasekharan Nair Stadium here on Sunday. Citing a German attempt to secure patent for Yoga, the police chief said that the wellness system has admirers across the world.
The Yoga session was organised in association with the Sivananda Yoga Centre.
Besides Senkumar, City Police Commissioner H Venkatesh, DCP (Law and Order) Kori Sanjay Kumar, Women’s Cell SP Surendran and SBCID SP Thomas Jolly Cheriyan participated in the session.
Around 500 personnel, including women officer attended the programme which started at 7 pm.
Jail Department
Prisons DGP Loknath Behera inaugurated the state-level Yoga Day programmes of the Jail Department at a function held in the Poojappura Central Jail on Sunday.
The session was held in all jails in the state from 7 am to 7.45 am.
Behera also inaugurated the Yoga training course for the inmates. The 15-day programme has been organised in association with the Mata Amritanandamayi Math, Kaimanam.
Around 100 inmates attended the session at the the Poojappura Central Jail. IG Gopakumar, DIG Pradeep, Superintendent Sam Thankayya, State Welfare Officer K Kumaran, Welfare Officers George Chacko, Rekha Nair, brahmachari Sivamrita Chaitanya and Abhayakumar of Mata Amritanandamayi Math, cine actors Sudheesh, Sreelakshmi and Ansiba Hassan attended.
SAI-LNCPE
Sports Authority of India - Lakshmibai National College of Physical Education (SAI-LNCPE) in collaboration with the National Cadet Corps (NCC) joined in the International Day of Yoga observation by a large demonstration held at its campus in Kariavattom near here on Sunday.
Around 500 students of SAI and 650 NCC cadets from nearby schools and colleges participated in the mass yoga demonstration. that was led by Manju Manasi from the Manasi Institute Of Yoga, New Delhi.
The programme began after a message by Prime Minister was read out to the gathering and was attended by LNCPE principal G Kishore and NCC Kerala and Lakshadweep Deputy Director General Brigadier Sanil Kumar.
Secretariat
Chief Secretary Jiji Thomson inaugurated the yoga demonstration held at the Durbar Hall here. Yoga trainer M S Chithra led the class which commenced at 7 am and was also attended by general administration secretary K R Jyothilal.
Raj Bhavan
As many as 50 employees of the Raj Bhavan also attended a yoga session held at Raj Bhavan Auditorium here that was led by yoga teacher Abhilash.
