THIRUVANANTHAPURAM:The project management consultant(PMC) to prepare the detailed project report (DPR) for the proposed Kinfra mega food park at Palakkad has been selected. The firm IL&FS has been chosen as the PMC through a transparent selection process.
The Union Ministry of Food Processing Industries (MoFPI) had earlier approved the proposal of Kerala Industrial Infrastructure Development Corporation (KINFRA) to set up a mega food processing Park at Palakkad as part of the 17 new projects in different parts of the country.
The park will have all basic infrastructure like roads, electricity and water supply, besides other allied systems like water treatment plant, effluent treatment plant, quality control laboratories, cold storages, warehouses and process centres.
The primary processing centres will be equipped with weighing lines, packhouses and chill rooms/cold storages.
It will also have facilities to support farmers, merchants and exporters. The estimated project cost has been pegged at 121.92 crore. Of which, an assistance of Rs 50 cr has been sought from MoFPI.
The raw material for the park will be sourced from across the state. Major raw materials identified for the park include coconuts, ginger, pepper, cardamom, turmeric, tamarind, jackfruit, tapioca, papaya, banana, pineapple, mango, cashew, arecanut and paddy.
It will cater to the food processing units dealing with various coconut products (tender coconut water, coconut milk, cream, dehydrated powder), fruit products (fruit beverages/concentrates, candies, jams, pickles), spice products (whole spices, spice powders ,spice extractions, seasonings), starch based products, value-added products from rice, bakery products and ethnic preparations from Kerala.
