Breakwaters Planned at Beemappally

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Health Minister and in charge of Thiruvananthapuram district V S Sivakumar said steps have been taken for constructing  six breakwaters at Beemappally, which is always under threat of sea erosion.

The breakwaters will be constructed at a cost of Rs 16.7 crore, he said. The Chennai IIT has done the environment study and the tender process will commence once the design is approved.

It is estimated that about 3000 fishermen are at risk here. Every year, the people from this region are shifted to rehabilitation camps during the monsoon. During monsoon, the houses and roads are damaged. 

The minister said the breakwaters build in a scientific way would help find a solution to the issues.
