Domestic Airport Terminal to Stay at Current Location

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Chief Minister Oommen Chandy on Monday said that the domestic terminal of the Thiruvananthapuram International Airport will not be moved from its current location at Shankumugham while also promising the Airport Action Council that no more evictions will take place for the redevelopment of the airport at Vallakkadavu and Vayyammoola region.

In a meeting that was held in the presence of Health Minister V S Sivakumar at the Chief Minister’s Office, Chandy said that any development of the airport will take place using the existing facilities and land available to the international airport without disrupting public life any further.The Chief Minister said that evictions have taken place at Vayyammoola more than once. The government will inform its decision to the Airports Authority of India during a meeting that will be convened soon. They had also carried out an Assembly march on July 28 which was inaugurated by Archbishop of the Thiruvananthapuram Archdiocese of the Latin Catholic Church Soosa Pakiam. Archdiocese Vicar Eugene H Pereira, District Congress Committee general secretary John Vinesius, Action Council general convener A Saifudeen Haji, Cyrus B Kalathil, N Vikraman Nair, V C Das, S Santhini, K Ismail Kutty Haji, Xavier Lopez, Joy C Mathew, Binu Joseph, R V Jolly, Valakadavu Viswan, James Fernandez, M S Prasanth, G Sivadasan Nair, P Ashokam, D Shaju and Shaji George attended the meeting.
