'32 Held for Elephant Poaching'

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM:  As many as 32 people, including two women, have been arrested till now in the elephant poaching case, Forest Minister Thiruvanchoor Radhakrishnan has said.

Stating that the investigation into the elephant poaching case had been intensified, the minister said on Wednesday that of the 32 arrested thus far, six were hunters, seven traders, eight craftsmen, two persons who were engaged in making weapons and nine helpers. The women arrested include a trader and helper, he said.

Radhakrishnan also said that 33.5 kg of ivory and 17.5 kg of ivory idols, nine guns and two vehicles were also seized. He said that the carcases of six elephants with their tusks removed were found.
