Mani Flays Misinfo Campaign

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM:  Stung by a campaign against him that he had played a role in bringing out the amendments to the land assignment rules, 1964, to enable the post-January 1,1997 encroachments up to June 1, 2005, which has been rolled back in the wake of all-round criticism, Finance-Law Minister K M Mani on Wednesday came out against what he termed as a ‘misinformation drive’  by vested interests, which was baseless and ill-motivated.

‘’My reply to the discussions on the Idukki title deeds issue, convened by the CM on May 9, 2012 , has been twisted in this regard. What I had stated in my reply was that legal steps could be initiated for clearing hurdles to issue title deeds to pre-1977 settlers in the once government-acquired but abandoned sites in the hydel project areas. The meet discussed whether the Special Rules, 1993, or Land Assignment Rules, 1964, should be applied for issuing title deeds for pre-January 1, 1977 occupants’’, he said.
