THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: After a brief hiatus, the chain- snatching team is back in the city. Two youngsters snatched three sovereigns of gold  chain from a woman named Thulasibhai after she was returning from a temple at Mannamoola near here on Monday. The incident happened in the Peroorkada police station limits.

A case has been registered. This is the second snatching incident being reported in two months in the city. The earlier incident was reported at Kannammoola, where the gold chain of a 70-year-old woman was snatched in a similar attempt. Though the face of the key culprit was identified through CCTV footage, he is yet to be traced by the police. Besides, there were two snatching attempts at Kallayam near Mannanthala on Saturday.

“An analysis of the recent chain-snatching cases reveals that 60 per cent of the criminals arrested for such crimes are first-time offenders and 40 per cent of them are juveniles,” a senior police officer said.
