Corporation to Inform Government of its Protest about Delimitation

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM:  The city corporation will inform its unanimous protest regarding delimitation and demand for the timely conduct of local body polls to the state government.

On the other matters raised by the Left Democratic Front councillors in the council meeting held here on Friday, no voice of discord was raised either in the opposition or the BJP.

However, without carrying out any healthy discussion, the meeting ended up on an unpleasant note after approving the resolution to okay the SIDCO bid to do the LED streetlight installation in the corporation.

The matter drew the wrath of the UDF councillors, who questioned the credibility of the agency to carry out the project and whether they will be able to produce quality products for installation.

Towards this project, Expression on Interest (EoI) was called, to which 13 companies came up and with an approved committee examining the proposals, five made their presentations.

Keltron, which did not come up with the EoI, later showed in interest in the project, and it being a government agency, was included. The final round had SIDCO and KELTRON competing and the former was assessed the best.

With debates continuing at length reaching no conclusion, the matter was put for vote and passed, counting the majority.

Following that, the UDF councillors led by leader Johnson Joseph moved to the well of the council hall with slogans.

With all committees presenting their respective resolutions under their head and getting approval, the meeting was wound up by Mayor K Chandrika.
