Fisheries Minister K Babu inaugurates various projects in Kulathoor grama panchayat

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM:The state government has sanctioned Rs 123 crore to undertake new projects in the fisheries sector, Fisheries Minister K Babu said on Wednesday. He added that various fisheries workers’ pensions will be disbursed before Onam.

Babu was speaking after inaugurating various projects in Kulathoor grama panchayat in the district, including a stadium at Paruthiyur and a fish landing centre. The UDF government has so far spent Rs 600 crore for the development of the fisheries sector. Rs 123 crore has been sanctioned for undertaking new projects.

In Thiruvananthapuram district alone, projects worth Rs 116.18 crore has been implemented, Babu said. The stadium at Paruthiyur has been constructed by the Kerala State Coastal Area Development Corporation (KSCADC) at a cost of Rs 19 lakh. The 5,000 sq m stadium has been funded by NABARD’s Rural Infrastructure Development Fund.

Babu also laid foundation stones for a number of projects in Paruthiyur and Adimalathura including a fish landing centre, net mending yards and a community facility centre.

The project outlay for the net mending yard in Paruthiyur is Rs 35 lakh, while the net mending yard and the fish landing centre at Adimalathura will cost Rs 1.87 crore. These projects are also being undertaken with NABARD assistance. The minister inaugurated four high mast lights at Paruthiyur, constructed at a cost of Rs 24 lakh, and two high mast lights in Adimalathura, which has cost Rs 14 lakh.

R Selvaraj MLA, KSCADC general manager K M Lethy and chief engineer M Rajeev, District Panchayath President Ansajitha Russel and Kulathoor Block Panchayat president M R Simon were present.
