'Heed to Ayyankali's Call for Self-reliance'

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM:  As called for by Ayyankali, to have 10 BA degree holders in the Sreemoolam Prajasabha and achieving progress in education is the way for the Scheduled Castes and Tribes to attain self-reliance, Minister for Welfare of Scheduled Castes and Backward classes A P Anilkumar said. He was speaking at the 153rd birth anniversary celebrations of Ayyankali,  organised by the Pattika Jathi-Varga Aikyavedi,here the other day. He reminded of the revised stipend and lumpsum grant sanctioned for the scheduled and backward classes and the increased grants for these categories to buy land and construct home in the panchayat, municipality and corporation areas. Several of the projects envisaged by Ayyankali are now being designed and implemented by the government, the Minister said.
