'Rs 232 cr Disbursed as Pension’

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM:  Labour Minister Shibu Baby John said on Thursday that benefits, including welfare pensions amounting to Rs232.5 crore, were disbursed in the state during the Onam festival.

Farmers’ pension to the tune of Rs194.8 crore and pension of Rs10.75 crore for cashew employees were given away, he said. The government had also earmarked Rs1 crore for the employees in the unorganised sector; Rs2.5 crore for providing ex gratia to the employees of the closed units; Rs10.95 crore for cashew workers’ relief fund; Rs5.15 crore for handloom employees’ welfare fund; Rs4.55 crore for tailor workers’ welfare fund; Rs5.52 lakh for cigar employees pension; Rs64.78 lakh for Kerala Beedi-Cigar employees; Rs1.33 crore for bamboo and other allied workers and Rs22.77 lakh for barber and beautician employees.

He also mentioned that the government was able to implement the Wage Protection Scheme for protecting the welfare of those working in  shops and business establishments.
