'Alter Ration Card Correction Method'

The present system, which was computer-based, was creating intense hardships for the general public, the CPM state secretariat said on Sunday.

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The CPM on Sunday urged the government to introduce a more people- friendly method for effecting corrections in ration cards. The present system, which was computer-based, was creating intense hardships for the general public, the CPM state secretariat said on Sunday.

“The government has published the details in the website, but in a state where e-literacy is yet to have 100 per cent coverage, it will create problems for the poor. The situation whereby you need assistance to correct mistakes will lead to the mistakes not getting rectified. This will create problems in future when the ration card is used for transactions,” the CPM said.

The government should urgently introduce a system whereby the corrections could be made at the ration shops concerned, the CPM said.

Even in the past, problems had emerged in connection with the submission of details for the new ration cards.

The government decided to make the necessary changes only after strong protests.
