Two Masked Men Arrested in Theft Bid

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Two masked men were arrested by the Neyyattinkara police on Sunday when they were attempting to break into a house near Marayamuttam.

The accused are Kalimuthu, 31, and Murugan, 30, both natives of Thanjavur in Tamil Nadu. Police said that the accused were part of a big burglary gang from Tamil Nadu who had been camping in the city and rural areas over the past few months. The two accused belonged to the same gang that decamped with valuables at a residence at Nemom three months ago after threatening the family members at knifepoint. In all cases, they were following a similar modus operandi by covering their faces with masks. Around 60 cases were registered against this particular gang in several police stations, including Pettah, Nemom, Venjaramoodu and Maranalloor.

They had tried to break into at least a dozen residences at Vellayani, Nemom and Pappanamcode and they were cleverly hiding at many places without raising any suspicion.

The accused were produced before the magistrate and remanded in judicial custody.
