'Kari' to Hit Theatres on Friday

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: 'Kari', a feature film based on the theme of the ritualistic Karinkali dance, will hit theatres on December 11.

The film is based on the casteist mindset of the conventional Kerala society, said members of the crew at a press meet here on Monday. " The goddess Karinkali is an essential feature of temple festivals in Malabar region. But the goddess is denied entry to the temple which is a remnant of the caste-based disrimination which once prevailed in the state," film director Naranipuzha Shanavas said.  Actor K T Satheesan who dons the role of Karinkali said the film also brings attention to the discrimination against black faced people by conventional minds in today's society.  Sudeep Palanad is the producer of the film. The cinematographer and sound recordist are Ramachandran and Krishnanunni respectively. Sudeep Palanad is the music director.  However, the film crew said they received a cold response from theatres.

" We are in touch with the Kerala State Film Development Corporation. We hope they will exhibit the film in theatres under its fold," they said.
