'1.2 Lakh Houses in Rural Areas Electrified'

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM:  Electricity Minister Aryadan Muhammed said the state could not achieve total electrification due to the proliferation of houses and because of the peculiar geography of the state. There are also impediments in drawing lines through forest areas, he said in the Assembly during the question hour. He said that as many as 1.2 lakh houses in the rural areas were electrified through Rajiv Gandhi Grameen Vidyutikaran Yojana programme.

On the Athirapally hydroelectric project, the Minister said that though sanction from the Centre has been accorded, the project can be started only after High Court gives its final orders on the pending cases.

He also mentioned that 751 people-55 permanent employees and 62 temporary employees of the KSEB- were electrocuted in the last four and a half years.
