Mamom Mishap: Remedial Steps Taken

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: With reports of increasing accidents in Attingal area, the government said that several measures have been taken to make travel safe. Patrolling and checking in the area near Mamom bridge and other sections of the road has been intensified, Transport Minister Thiruvanchoor Radhakrishnan said in a reply to Attingal MLA B Sathyan.

The Highway Authority has placed enough road dilineators on Mamom bridge and other parts of the road to regulate the traffic, he said. Apart from this, checking and patrolling during day and night time has been intensified in the area, he added.

Steps have also been taken for making it compulsory for the private buses to display the phone number of the Enforcement Wing of the Motor Vehicles Department. The drivers of the private buses are also being given awareness classes on traffic rules ad safe driving, he said.

Peroorkada Bus Depot

Radhakrishnan also told the Assembly that there was a shortage of seven city fast and  35 city ordinary buses in the Peroorkada depot. Though 110 schedules are allotted from Peroorkada bus depot, only 77 schedules are now being operated, he said in reply to Vattiyoorkavu MLA K Muraleedharan.
