THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The political air in the state is bound to be vitiated further over the exclusion of the Chief Minister from attending the R Sankar statue unveiling ceremony, with a prayer conclave planned by the KPCC in front of R Sankar’s statue at Palayam here from 2.20 pm on Tuesday. In the evening, the Congress captained UDF has also planned a public meet at Gandhi park at East Fort, which is aimed to expose both the CPM-led Left forces and BJP’s Sangh Parivar team.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi has already set the tone for a BJP steamrolling against the politics of violence on the one hand and the issue of political untouchable attitude in the state, in his speech in Thrissur on Monday. BJP and Vellappally team is supposed to gain from the bashing.
Around the same time Modi is supposed to unveil the Sankar statue in Kollam, the KPCC-led prayers ‘to arouse the conscience of society against the ulterior moves to snatch the legacy of R Sankar by BJP-Vellappally team’ is poised to position Kerala on a sharp political edge, as the CPM and the LDF is also leaving no stone unturned to rip the tie-up apart.
KPCC’s prayer meet will be noted for the presence of Oommen Chandy, Home Minister Ramesh Chennithala and president V M Sudheeran. Under public gaze, the unusual conclave could charge the state’s political atmosphere to a new level, ahead of the Assembly polls. Through the evening public meet, the UDF is supposed to turn the heat on the CPM for continuing an agitation course in the Bar and Solar issues. It is the first in the series of meets planned in district centres and billed as a twin-pronged strategy to stuck a political dimmer on the Left campaign and take a hardened posture against any group which stands in the way of hitting the secular fabric of Kerala society.
Interestingly, Chandy and his ministerial colleagues will see the Prime Minister off from the airport here at the end of the day, after presenting a set of demands and hopes of the state. Perhaps, only a state like Kerala can perform such a balancing act.
