Adoor: Parties that Display Autocracy are Undemocratic

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Film maker Adoor Gopalakrishnan has said that a democratic government should lend its ears to the different voices. He was speaking after inaugurating, ‘The cultural meet for the survival of renaissance’, a cultural gathering conducted as part of the  90th anniversary celebrations of CPI Formation Day at Gandhi park on Sunday.

“It is not democratic for political parties to display autocratic governance after coming to power. The people should act or call back the government if their governance is anti-democratic. The credibility and biography of a candidate is important when it comes to contesting polls. Criminal and anti-socials contesting in elections is not good for democracy,” he said.

He  pointed out that he was a hardcore sympathiser of left parties. The inclusion of art and culture in the anniversary of the party is a nice trend. The present cultural scenario is different from that of the period when the party was formed. Hence the political activists should be in the groove of the change in the political climate over several years.
