THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The state government has decided to put on hold the decision to re-tender the printing work of school textbooks.

Education Minister P K Abdu Rabb said on Saturday that the decision not to go for retendering was taken in view of the delay that would occur in the entire process.

“The Kerala Books and Publications Society (KBPS) will be entrusted with the printing of the remaining textbooks if it is able to complete the work in time,” Abdu Rabb said.

The Cabinet had on Wednesday decided to go for retendering of the printing work. Chief Minister Oommen Chandy had admitted to lapses in the printing process and said that only 20 per cent of the printing work remained to be completed.

Acting on a complaint on the delay in printing, the Lok Ayukta had earlier this week tasked Additional Director General Of Police B Sandhya to carry out an inquiry into the delay.
