THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: International rowing champion Dittymol Varghese and chess grandmaster S L Narayanan have won the G V Raja Award instituted by the State Sports Council in the female and male categories respectively. The award comprises a certificate, a plaque and a purse of Rs 3 lakh each.
Former national coach P R Purushothaman has been selected for the Olympian Suresh Babu Memorial Lifetime Achievement Award. He will be presented with a plaque, a certificate and cash prize of Rs 2 lakh. P B Jaykumar is the best sports trainer.
He will get a cash prize of Rs 100,000, a plaque and a certificate.
Best Sports Teacher
Ashish Joseph of St Thomas College, Pala, has been selected as the best sports teacher. The award carries a cash prize of Rs 50,000, a plaque and a certificate. At the school level, Maju Jose of Calvary Mount High School, Idukki, won the award for best sports teacher and Assumption College, Changanassery, retained the best performance award. The best performance award in the school category went to Mar Basil HSS, Kothamangalam. No entry was received for the best sports book award. The media award winners are Sam Prasad D (Kerala Kaumudi), P V Sujith (photographer, Desabhimani) and Joby George (Asianet News, programme: ‘Kalikalam’).
