Two Held with 5 kg of Ganja

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM:  The city shadow police on Tuesday arrested two wholesale dealers with 5 kg of ganja. The accused are Hakeem, 36, a resident of Beemappally and Jagannathan, 34, of Kambam, Tamil Nadu. Police said that Hakeem was a local dealer of ganja and he was nabbed from East Fort.

Hakeem was nabbed after the police posed themselves as customers of ganja. When the police came in civil dress at the spot, he was waiting at the spot for the other accused Jagannathan to hand over the stuff. Following that, Hakeem was surrounded by the police and  Jagannathan landed in police net. Jagannathan was nabbed from near the Medical College Hospital.

The accused used to bring the stuff through trains and buses from Kambam, Theni and Madurai. Both the accused were produced before the magistrate, who remanded them in  judicial custody for 14 days.

One Arrested

Meanwhile, the Excise flying squad sleuths on Tuesday arrested a man and recovered two kilograms of ganja from his possession. The accused has been identified as Xavier, 50, a resident of Valiyathura here. He is  the brother of Jinjy, who was arrested by the city police two weeks ago for allegedly possessing and selling ganja. According to the officials, the

accused was nabbed from Watts Lane near Valiyathura. The arrest of Xavier came following information gleaned from Jinjy. The accused used to hide the ganja either in his house or at abandoned places. The accused has been produced before the magistrate and remanded in the judicial custody, officials said.

Ganja Peddler Arrested

T’Puram: The Peroorkada police on Tuesday detained a notorious ganja peddler under the Kerala Antisocial Activities (Prevention) Act. The accused is Ramaswamy, son of Krishnan Nadar, Puthuval Puthenveedu, Peroorkada. He  has been engaged in ganja trade for over three decades. This is the fourth time that he is getting arrested for preventive detention.  He is an accused in over 40 criminal cases, including assaults, thefts and peddling. The accused had earlier been booked by the police under the NDPS Act several times. Two sons of Ramaswamy are also criminals and one son, Unni, is in prison. Ramaswamy landed in  police net from a hide-out. He has been shifted to the Central Prison for preventive detention.
