
THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Want to revamp your festival wardrobe? Head straight to RDR Auditorium Edapazhanji where silk manufacturers, weavers, handloom clusters and silk co-operative societies from various parts of India have arrived with their Onam collections.
You will find a solid collection of all famed silks at Silk India-2017 with more than fifty stalls representing units from various states. Organised by Hastashilpi Artisans and Weavers Welfare Association, the expo has splendid silk saris in tussar, eri, mulberry and muga. “Tussar and Muga are wild varieties from the states of Bihar, Assam and Chattisgarh,” says Abhinand, coordinator of Hasthashilpi.
You will find a wide range of silks from traditional Kanjivaram to trendy jute silks. Georgette silk saris, paithani saris, Sambalpuri, Ikkat, raw silk, kosa, Mysore silk chiffon silk and Darmavaram silks are on offer. You can also shop for silk shawls, silk blended fabrics for furnishing, bed covers, border, laces and designer kurtis.
Exclusive Silk products from the states of Himachal Pradesh, Maharashtra, Madhya Pradesh, Orissa, Assam, Chhattisgarh, Bihar, Karnataka, Tamil Nadu, Andhra Pradesh, Delhi, Rajasthan, Gujarat, Goa, Jammu Kashmir, Haryana, Uttar Pradesh are displayed. “The products are available at reasonable prices for they are sold directly by the manufacturers,” said Abhinand. The expo is on till August 7 and the timing is 10.30 am to 8.30 pm.
