THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The Kerala State Pollution Control Board (KSPCB) has issued certain guidelines to limit the noise pollution caused by crackers during Deepavali.    The guidelines have been issued in the wake of people going for crackers that produce high-decibel sounds.

The Pollution Control Board said it has now become a trend for bursting crackers that produce high-decibel sound. The  Ministry of Environment has already come out with certain restrictions and guidelines on sound pollution and crackers having high-decibel sound.

It said crackers producing sounds of 125 db and more have been banned. It directed the traders to avoid sale of loud crackers and also asked the people to avoid such crackers which produce high-decibel sounds.
The KSPCB said bursting of crackers has been banned between 10 pm to 6 am and asked the people to refrain from doing so.

The Board also banned bursting of crackers within a 100-m radius of hospitals, courts, places of worship, educational institutions and narrow roads. Instead of high-sounding crackers, the Pollution Board asked the people to use crackers that produce only light and colour.
