THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: For mime lovers Alliance Francaise de Trivandrum in association with Bharat Bhavan is organising a mime show with a difference. The mime show by La Cie Akaraku ‘WANTED’ will be staged on February 11.

WANTED is a mime play based on Lecoq technique with one actress, playing all the characters, and one mouth sound-effect maker. The artists Lorraine Brochet and Barnaba Gautier were inspired by the Western universe, because of its violence and aesthetic, its absurdity and its rhythm. So they worked on the embodiment of movie camera movement, change of frame, and everything else they could transpose from one media to another.

They have also used silent movie style to soften the violence in some scenes, and cartoon style to pull away from realism. The show leans on the capacity of the performers to tune into each other: the illusion is based on a very precise synchronicity between movement and sound. Sound effects give a depth and texture to the movement so that the empty space becomes, consecutively, a saloon, a bank, a desert and invisible becomes visible.

Lecoq technique is named after Jacques Lecoq, the famous French actor who used his methods in physical theatre, movement, and mime while  teaching at the school he founded in Paris.
The show starts at 6.30pm and the entry is free. For more information, please contact: culture.trivandrum@afindia.org. Phone: 0471 2320666 / 6578808.
