Two killed in mishaps

Two persons were killed in two separate accidents in the district on Saturday morning. The first accident occurred around 5.45 am at Kattachalakuzhi

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Two persons were killed in two separate accidents in the district on Saturday morning. The first accident occurred around 5.45 am at Kattachalakuzhi near Balaramapuram when a 65-year-old man was hit by a speeding car while he was heading to his workplace at Uchakkada from Kattachalkuzhi.

The deceased has been identified as Nanukuttan Nair, a resident of Payattuvila. Though he was taken to the general hospital at Neyyattinkara, he was declared brought dead. 


The Vizhinjam police have registered a case in connection with the accident. The police took the car driver, Vivek of Kadakkavoor, into custody and booked him under Section 304A (culpable homicide not amounting to murder) of the IPC. Nanukuttan Nair was an employee of a hotel functioning at Uchakkada. He leaves behind wife Santhakumari, son Anil and daughter Geetha. The body has been handed over to the family after an autopsy. 


In the second accident that occurred at Alamukku near Kattakada around 7 am, a 65-year-old man who was travelling in a car died after the vehicle hit a compound wall. The deceased is Sashikumar, a resident of Nadoorkolla, Amaravila. His son Rajesh was driving the car when the accident occurred. According to the police, the father and son were returning home after visiting an ayurveda clinic at Palode. 


Rajesh might have dozed off which led to the accident. Sashikumar was thrown off the car and fell into a nearby drain in the impact of the collision. Though he was taken to a nearby hospital, he was declared brought dead. Rajesh, who suffered injuries, has been admitted to a hospital. The Kattakada police have registered a case in connection with the accident. The body of Sashikumar was shifted the morgue of the Medical College Hospital.
