Wells recharged under Jalasamrudhi project

Kannancode ward in Pallichal panchayat successfully recharged the wells of around 10 families using the water drawn from the defunct granite quarries.

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Kannancode ward in Pallichal panchayat successfully recharged the wells of around 10 families using the water drawn from the defunct granite quarries This success has paved the way for the work to be carried out in other areas under the Jalasamrudhi project. Water in the quarry pit is routed to a recharge pit near wells using gravitational flow. The flow is regulated using a tap.

The mechanism helped recharge 10 wells in the area. Kattakada MLA, I B Sathish inaugurated the well recharging project. He said the successful model will be replicated in other parts of the constituency. Land Use Commissioner Nizamudeen A, activists of Shastra Sahitya Parishad V Harilal etc attended the function.

The Jalasamrudhi project aims to conserve and rejuvenate water resources in the constituency. Kattakada assembly constituency, which shares two major rivers and many water bodies, has an important place in the water governance in the district.
