A fake kidnap attempt story framed by a Class VIII student to avoid attending tuition class gave tense moments to the police at Attingal on Thursday.

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: A fake kidnap attempt story framed by a Class VIII student to avoid attending tuition class gave tense moments to the police at Attingal on Thursday. However, the police foiled the story with the help of surveillance cameras installed on the road before things escalated.

The police offficers said they received a complaint from the parents of the girl that a gang of four men, who came in an Omni van, tried to abduct her near the Government Girls High School junction on Attingal–Chirayinkeezhu road around 7 am. However, they said she managed to escape by running away.

As soon as they received the complaint, the police launched a search for the culprits. The police said the surveillance cameras on the spot where the girl claimed the kidnap bid supposedly  took place revealed no such thing happened there. In fact, the girl never even came that way, they said.

The police said the girl had bunked the class the previous day and a leave letter was required to enter the class on Thursday. As she did not have one, her friend advised her to cook up a  kidnap story to divert attention. In fact, the friend had once tried this once and succeeded as her parents never bothered to file a complaint.

The police said the girl stood firm on her story despite disproving it with evidence. But finally , she said the truth and returned home with parents after a counselling session.
