THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Minister for Tourism, Cooperation and Devaswom, and the local MLA, Kadakampally Surendran asked officials of National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) to resolve the issue of water logging at Venpalavattom near the bypass within two days. He visited the houses, accompanied by officials of NHAI which is carrying out the road development at bypass, ward councillor Hima Siji, Tahsildar, officials of engineering section of corporation etc on Thursday. NHAI offials assured the minister that they will construct a temporary drain as a solution to the present issue.

A permanent system will be constructed once the flyover work of the bypass gets completed, they assured the minister. NHAI closed the main road to construct a flyover at the junction and diverted traffic on to the service road on both sides. The service road has been widened by filling the drains with sand and this effectively chocked the culverts, resulting in water logging in the nearby area.

Trivandrum Express carried a story on the plight of the families affected by water inundation, on Friday. The minister had allocated Rs 40 lakh for the development of the road infront of Lords hospital. He directed the officials present to complete the work at the earliest.
