THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: As part of the Indira Gandhi birth centenary fete, veteran Congress leaders in the state will be honoured with the ‘Indira Gandhi birth centenary award’ in the first week of November, for their valuable and selfless contributions. The awards will be given to former KPCC presidents Thennala Balakrishna Pillai and C V Padmarajan, former Governors M M Jacob, K Sankaranarayanan and Vakkom Purushothaman and former minister M Kamalam.
The award will be presented to M M Jacob at a special function at the Pala Town Hall on November 3. On the next day, at 5 pm,Thennala Balakrishna Pillai, C V Padamarajan, K Sankaranarayanan and Vakkom Purushothaman will be honoured at a function at the Indira Bhavan here. Congress working committee member A K Antony will present the awards to the leaders. The award to M Kamalam will be presented to her at Kozhikode, at a later date.
KPCC president M M Hassan will preside over the award presentation ceremony scheduled here. Former Chief Minister Oommen Chandy, former KPCC presidents V M Sudheeran, and K Muraleedharan MLA, MPs Shashi Tharoor and Kodikunnil Suresh, V S Sivakumar MLA and DCC president Neyyatinkara Sanal will attend the function.
