THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: District rural shadow police have arrested a history-sheeter involved in as many as 50 criminal cases, including an attempt to murder and ganja smuggling. The arrested - Dileep alias Chandu of Kottukunnam near Venjaramoodu - also operated a racket for peddling narcotics to students.

The 38-year-old was arrested by the police team acting on a tip off. Ganja weighing about two kg was seized from him while being transported in a brand new bike. Two people were arrested on Thursday from the Attingal court premises when they arrived there to hand over ganja to remand prisoners who came for trial. While probing this case, the police came across information revealing Dileep’s involvement in ganja smuggling.

The Attingal Police said Dileep was arrested last year while smuggling about 10 kg ganja from Vandiperiyar. After obtaining bail, he was again caught for a similar offence this March.
Then, he was found in possession of seven kg of ganja, horns and skin of poached wild animals and the gun used for committing the crime.
