VIJAYAWADA: Income Tax (IT) department is committed to the interests of taxpayers and the public, said M Bhupal Reddy, principle commissioner, IT on Thursday. The chief guest for the workshop, organized on the occasion of Vigilance Awareness week observed from October 30 to November 4 every year, Bhupal Reddy said the IT department is making all efforts to make tax payers aware about the problems in the process of taxation. “The very purpose of observing Vigilance Awareness Week is to educate the public at large about the corruption related practices and also make them aware about how to report it,” he said. 

As part of Vigilance week observations, IT officials conducted quizzes, debates and essay writing competitions in various schools and took opinions and suggestions from officials. With the theme “My Vision- Corruption Free India”, IT officials conducted a workshop by inviting experts from various fields and took their suggestion for better services. Addressing the media, T Satyanandam, joint commissioner, said that the awareness programmes will be like a mass movement, where people will learn to say no to corruption. “This programme will encourage all stakeholders to collectively fight against corruption. It will make public aware about the existence, causes and the threat posed by corruption,” he said. 

Gaddam Satyanarayana of Tax Bar association, Malineni Rajaiah, president of Andhra Chamber of Commerce, Vakkalagadda Bhaskara Rao of Chamber of Commerce, Rajendra Prasad, CGM of BSNL, Prof LSS Reddy, KL University vice-chancellors and other participated in the workshop and brought several issues to the IT officials notice.
