Make your studies interesting

Health-related queries will be answered by psychotherapist A Geethan

I am a Class X student. I want to concentrate on studies, but unable to do so. My mind often gets diverted. My school is conducting special classes this summer. My parents are expecting me to score more. I am worried. Please suggest some ideas to concentrate better on studies.

Your statement “My mind often gets diverted” seems as though your mind is a separate entity out of your control. Own the diversion and say, “I am diverting myself”. This means you are taking 100 per cent responsibility for yourself. Whenever there is a diversion, there is a want. When you find yourself getting diverted, ask yourself, “What do I want?”. See how you can get the want met in an appropriate manner. Then the need to divert will reduce.

If your parents or expectations of the school authorities are the factors for your studying, then you will not be involved much in academics. If you find your subjects interesting, then your motivation to study will be high. You can make your subject interesting by taking a topic and seeing how you can apply it to your daily life — you can look at the ways it is already applied in day-to-day life. This will make your studies meaningful and interesting to learn. Create an interest in your subject.
