Vel Tech Multi Tech wins award for Best Industry Linked institution

Vel Tech Multi Tech Dr Rangarajan Dr Sakunthala Engineering College, Chennai, was awarded the AICTE-CII Survey of Industry Linked Technical Institutions Infosys Award for the Best Industry-Linked Computer/IT and Allied Engineering Institute (Degree) on an all-India level. Out of four categories, this standard category for Engineering, Pharmacy and Architecture is considered to be the premier category and there are six streams such as Chemical, Civil, Computer and IT, Electrical, Electronics and Communication and Mechanical engineering. The survey covers all dimensions such as governance, curriculum, faculty, infrastructure, services, placements and social development.

AMACE hosts a two-day workshop on control systems

Arulmigu Meenakshiamman College Of Engineering (AMACE), near Kanchipuram, Tamil Nadu, recently organised a two-day workshop. The workshop was inaugurated by R Hariprakash, Vice Chair (Professional Activities) Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE) India Council and Secretary IEEE Control Systems Society — Madras Section, in the presence of MR Mohan Principal, AMACE and Prof S Rajappa, Director AMACE at the Electrical and Electronics Engineering Department (EEE) of AMACE. MR Mohan, former Professor, Anna University and Principal of AMACE, delivered the technical lecture on ‘Introduction to Control Drives and Systems’. The next session was presented by K Udhaykumar, Department of EEE, College of Engineering, Anna University, Chennai, on ‘Time Domain and Frequency Domain Analysis’. S Jeevananthan, of EEE Department of Pondicherry Engineering College, Puducherry, conducted two sessions on ‘AC Drives Case Study — MATLAB Simulation of V/F controlled induction motor’. On the second day of the workshop Prof S Ganeshkumar, CEG, conducted a session on ‘Control system for DC drives’. He gave away an e-text book Control Device Techniques in Power Electronics Devices to the participants.

Dell and IIT-M join hands for research on infrastructure and Cloud technologies

Dell recently collaborated with IIT Madras (IIT-M) for a joint research and development programme in the area of Next Generation Infrastructure and Cloud Technologies. Jai Menon, Vice-President, Head of Research and Chief Research Officer at Dell, Professor R Nagarajan, Dean of International and Alumni Relations at IIT-M and Sreedhara Narayanaswamy, Executive Director and GM, Datacenter PD/PI Global Engineering and Chennai R&D, was present during the signing of MoU. The MoU will facilitate research and exchange of research scholars. Professor R Nagarajan, Dean of International and Alumni Relations at IIT-M, was present during the event.

ISB signs MoU with IICA to offer a certificate course

The Indian School of Business (ISB), Hyderabad, and the Indian Institute of Corporate Affairs (IICA) have signed an agreement to jointly offer a certificate programme in Corporate Social Responsibility Management. The MoU was signed by Bhaskar Chatterjee, Director General and CEO, IICA, and Pradeep Singh, Deputy Dean, ISB and CEO (Mohali campus), in New Delhi (see pic). The Programme will commence on June 2015. The programme has been co-designed for delivery at ISB’s Hyderabad and Mohali campuses and the IICA campus at Manesar by the National Foundation for CSR, IICA and the Center of Executive Education (CEE), ISB. The programme will be offered in a hybrid mode, both through classroom sessions and online. It is spread over 16 weeks and includes three on-campus contact sessions. Students will be able to continue the course online through ISB’s Technology Aided Learning facility.

MDI hosts cultural events, Imperium and Akshayam

Management Development Institute (MDI), Gurgaon, recently hosted Imperium and Akshayam. Both the events were held from November 28-30 in the MDI campus. Over 3,000 students from top 20 B-Schools of India including the likes of IIM Ahmedabad, IIM Bhubaneswar, IIM Calcutta, IIM Lucknow and XLRI, Jamshedpur. The events started with the inaugural function on November 28, which was graced by Bhaskar Chatterjee, the Director General and CEO, Indian Institute of Corporate Affairs, Gurgaon. Professor CP Shrimali, Acting Director, MDI, inaugurated the event. Keynote speaker Anurag Batra, Chairman and Editor-in-Chief of exchange4media Group also addressed the gathering. There were three days of cultural activities for students like solo songs in Hindi and English, duet songs, T-shirt paintings, collage and poster making, guitar wars, dance competitions, street play, stage play, mime, rangoli-making, dress-making and an offline quiz. Famous stand-up comedian Nitin Gupta of Rivaldo, Indian Rock n Roll band and the band Parikrama performed on-stage during the events. A fashion show Mr and Ms Akshayam Fashion Pageant was held.

Law Day celebrations at Saveetha University’s School of Law

Saveetha University’s School of Law, Chennai, celebrated the National Law Day on November 26, to mark the anniversary of the adoption of the Indian Constitution. Life time achiever awards were presented to eminent legal luminaries during the event at the University campus. NM Veeraiyan, the Chancellor of the University, felicitated the Chief Guest, Justice NM Venkatachala Moorthy, Former Chief Justice of Chhattisgarh High Court. The life-time awardees, VK Muthusamy, Senior Advocate, Madras HC; R Muthukumaraswamy, Senior Advocate; Justice SK Krishnan; R Veeramani, Chairman, Granite Natural Stones and Products Panel of CAPEXIL and D Selvam, Chairman, Bar Council of TN and Puducherry, were felicitated by the Chancellor. Mythili Bhaskaran, VC of Saveetha University; Omana George, Principal, Saveetha School of Law and S Ramu, VP, were also present. A mime was performed by students of the college highlighting good citizenship and civic responsibilities.
