Fourth Computing Fest NCACAT – 2K14 Organised at Easwari Engineering College

Department of Computer Applications, Easwari Engineering College, Chennai, conducted its Fourth National Conference on Advanced Computing Applications and Technologies – NCACAT -2K14 in the campus recently. Chief Guest of the inaugural programme was Shankri Seshadri, Head, Softeon Limited, Chennai, and the Guest of Honour for the day was Vishal Issac, south region Recruitment Head, CMC, TATA Enterprises. The programme was inaugurated by D Sivakumar, HoD, Department of IT and Convenor. M Sekar, principal, delivered the inaugural address. P Alagambigai, Assistant Prof and Conference Co-ordinator was present and addressed the gathering. MC Abraham, Financial Planner, Principal Retirement Advisors-INDIA was the Guest of Honour for the valedictory function. He delivered the valedictory address and distributed the certificates to the participants.

National conference on VLSI signal processing held

The Department of Electronics and Telecommunication Engineering, CV Raman College of Engineering (CVRCE), Bhubaneswar, organised the second National Conference on VLSI Signal Processing and Trends in Telecommunication (VS@TT’14) on May 9 and 10. The conference was chaired by Prof Prithviraj Kabisatpathy, Dean, PG Programme and Curriculum Development of the college and co-chaired by Prof Priyadarshi Kanungo, who is Associate Professor and Head of the Department of Electronics and Telecommunication Engineering, CVRCE. The inaugural function was chaired by the director of CVRCE, Prof KC Patra. The Chief Guest for the occasion was Prof Shankar Lall Maskara, Ex-Professor of IIT Kharagpur, West Bengal. The Guest of Honor for the inauguration was Prof Tapan Kumar Basu, Ex-Professor in the department of Electrical Engineering, IIT Kharagpur, West Bengal. For VS@TT’14, there were three technical sessions, one each on VLSI Design, Signal Processing and Telecommunication Engineering where around 20 research papers from various colleges across the country were presented. Eminent faculties and researchers conducted sessions and keynote presentations.

Naukri Job Speak Index places Insurance and Telecom on top

The Naukri Job Speak Index of Chennai has shown no change in hiring activity in April  when compared to March. An in depth analysis reveals that among industries Insurance and Telecom are the top  performing sectors with the Naukri Job Speak Index moving up by 24 per cent and 19 per cent respectively in April. IT sector grew at modest three per cent in April while BPO sector grew by 14 per cent. Auto and Banking sector saw index moving up by six per cent and four per cent for April. In terms of decline, Oil & Gas is the only sector which has seen a downward trajectory with the Naukri Job Speak Index going down by 7 per cent in April. The demand for professionals working in Banking and Insurance saw the maximum growth with the Naukri Job Speak Index moving up by 16 per cent in April over March. Professionals employed in BPO and HR/administration also saw growth with the index moving up by 14 per cent and 12 per cent each respectively. Sales and Marketing professionals also saw a spurt moving up by nine per cent and eight per cent respectively. Professionals working in Project management and Maintenance moved down by five per cent and four per cent respectively. The index has witnessed over 10 per cent growth in hiring in April 2014 over April 2013.

Volkswagen and Hindustan sign MoU

Hindustan University, Chennai, and Volkswagen Group Sales India have signed an MoU to offer Advanced Diploma Course in Autotronics in Chennai, India. Volkswagen Group Sales India Private Limited (VWGSIPL) is in the business of sales and service of Volkswagen Group cars in India. VWGSIPL has developed the curriculum for the advanced diploma and the same will be offered in India for the first time through Hindustan University. The course consists of three learning modules spread over a period of 18 months which includes 10 weeks of internship. The programme aims to raise the skills levels of recipients and further prepare them to join the global workforce in the automotive industry. VWGSIPL will also provide necessary resources for conducting classes in campus.

Representatives from Bristol Business School and UAB, Spain visit BIMTECH

Hugo Gaggiotti, Director-MBA Programme, Bristol Business School, Bristol, UK and Diana Marre, Professor, UAB, Barcelona, Spain visited Birla Institute of Management Technology (BIMTECH) Bhubaneswar campus. They interacted with faculty and students during their stay. Faculty and academic exchange possibilities and collaborative research with Bristol Business School UK and UAB, Spain was also discussed. BK Das, Advisior BIMTECH, and Prithiv Yadav, Director, BIMTECH accompanied both the professors during their visit to the campus.

Excited students make Vertex 5.0 a success

MVJ College of Engineering, Bangalore, recently kick-started their fifth edition of their annual inter-collegiate technical fest Vertex 5.0 based on the theme of ‘Education and Awareness for all’. The one-day technical hosted a wide range of programmes ranging from conventional paper presentations and quizzes to fun filled activities such as robotics, gaming and designing to name a few. Events like Hydro Rocketry, Robo Wars, Robo Race and Robo Soccer, saw maximum student participation. ‘CHEMATRON’ was an activity where the participants had to look for clues and solve riddles placed around the campus and identify the compounds required for the reaction and perform the experiment. ‘VerTechX5.0’ was inaugurated by S Kishore Kumar, Additional Director, GTRE, Defense Research and Development Organisaiton, Bangalore. KS Shanmukharadhya, Principal and M Krishnamoorthy, HoD of ECE department, were present at the event.
