University of Buffalo, US

Their full-time residential PhD in Management entitles study of Accounting, Finance, Management Science and Systems, Managerial Economics, Marketing, Operations Management and Strategy and Organisation and Human Resources. Application requirements include admission fee of $50 (approx `3,000), GRE/GMAT score, IELTS/TOEFL score, two recommendation letters, statement of purpose, resume and academic transcripts.

London Business School, UK

It offers a full-time four-year PhD in Management. Research concentrations include Accounting, Economics, Finance, Management Science and Operations, Marketing, Organisational Behaviour and Strategy and Entrepreneurship. Application checklist includes two essays, names and details of two referees, official transcripts, GMAT/GRE and TOEFL/IELTS scores. Applications for 2015 are on from September till Jan 8, 2015.

Melbourne Business School, Australia

Their current PhD programme focuses on Management, Management Science and Marketing. The course can be pursued as a three-year full-time or six-year part-time programme. As part of the programme, you need to produce a thesis of about 80,000-1,00,000 words in length. The School looks for candidates who exhibit a passion for knowledge and a drive to develop new ideas as their programme is intensive. You need to come up with a research proposal within 12-18 months of joining the programme.

INSEAD Business School

Having campuses in France, Singapore and Abu Dhabi, INSEAD’s PhD in Management prepares you to be at the forefront of business research and disseminate cutting edge knowledge to managers and organisations. With full-time study, you can complete the PhD in four-five years. The programme entitles active research in association with the faculty members right from the start. Applications for 2014 are closed. Applications for 2015 will begin in Fall 2014. Only four-five per cent of applications make it.

University of Birmingham, UK

Beginning this September, you can opt to do their PhD either as a full-time programme spanning three years or as a part-time course to be completed in six years. Research areas include Procurement and Operations Management, Managerial Economics and International Management and Organisation. You will have to work on a research project right from the first year. As part of the course work, you need to produce a thesis of 80,000 words accompanied by an oral examination defending the thesis.

Lancaster University, UK

Their Management School offers PhD in Management and Business. They also have integrated PhDs applicable to Departments of Economics and Management Science. Postgraduates with an IELTS score of 7 can apply. For the PhD in Accounting and Finance, candidates need to have a GMAT score. Fee for full-time and part-time studies is £12,940 (approx `13 lakh) and £6,470 (approx `6.5 lakh) respectively. Studentships are available to cover your cost of study.
