Students Rally for Transgender Rights

The Department of Management Studies (DoMS), IIT Madras, organised ‘TRANSCEND’ — a social run to raise awareness about the social, political and economical rights of transgenders among the student population.  The run was flagged off by the chief guest Kalki Subramaniam, a successful transgender woman, and the founder of the Sahodari Foundation, which has been working towards establishing social, economic, and environmental justice for transgenders, intersex and gender non-conforming people. The event beckoned over 200 professional and amateur runners from within the campus.  The run took place inside the lush campus of IIT-Madras, totally spanning about five kms. The Registrar of IIT-Madras, VG Bhooma, who was present on the occasion, felicitated the chief guest, Kalki Subramaniam. Prof MS Sivakumar, Dean (Students) of IIT Madras, Prof TJ Kamalanabhan, HoD of DoMS, Prof C Rajendran, Faculty Coordinator of Samanvay, the annual Management fest of IIT-Madras and Prof M Thenmozhi, Chairperson of MBA programme at DoMS, IIT Madras, were also present at the event.
