For Wannabe Accountants

For all those students who wanted to be an accountant or an auditor, and practise at a global level, the Institute of Management Accountants (IMA) and American Institute of Certified Public Accountants (AICPA) is offering CMA and CPA credentials through Miles Education.  Started in the year 2010, Miles Professional Education has been conducting CMA and CPA classes across eight cities in India. “Our formula has been very simple since our inception. We wanted to offer competent teaching and comprehensive knowledge to all students, at flexible class hours and affordable rates. While most professional qualifications recognised by the US would cost a minimum of Rs 10-20 lakh, we offer CPA at less than Rs 3 lakh. The recently introduced CMA course, costs only Rs 95,000,” explains Meenakshi Jain, Co-Founder and Executive Director, Miles Education.

The best part about taking up a CPA or CMA course compared to a CA (Chartered Accountancy) is the time frame of classes and simplicity in exam procedures. “Although CPA exams can be written only in the US, it contains only four papers, and does not require the students to have any work experience as opposed to articleship, which is mandatory for CA,” adds Jain. Those students, who would still like to practise with the ICAI in India, can take up a qualifying exam after clearing CPA, and practise anywhere.

Classes for CMA and CPA are held every Sunday, spread across 10-24 weeks. While CMA requires 400 hours of teaching and practice within six months, CPA can be completed within 1,000 hours of training and practice, in one year’s time. The final exams are mostly objective-based, and can be taken up online. Chennai, an education destination, has always been open to new courses. CMA is no exception says Jain. “Since CMA exams can be written within India, that too within six months of training, Chennai is one of the fastest growing centres with huge demand. Owing to this popularity, we are in talks with some leading city colleges to introduce integrated CMA classes.” Miles will also expand to Ahmedabad, Chandigarh, Jaipur and Indore.

“Taking up CPA helped me climb the career ladder quite fast. For people like me, who would like to have the best of both worlds by working at an MNC within India and travel abroad occasionally, credentials like CPA and CMA are the way to go,” explains Harshwardhan Agarwal, Deputy Audit Manager, Deloitte and Miles alumni. It is not just the trade markets that are becoming a global village; even the field of education offers the best of the world in our homeland. Details at www.mileseducation.com.
