Overcoming the Speech Barrier

Sometimes, we have brilliant ideas in our mind but we simply do not know how to get people to listen to us. Too many things come to mind when we start speaking — the atmosphere, the context, the purpose of the conversation or the speech. All these could be barriers hindering our thought process and when we speak, people may ask us to repeat ourselves or explain. Here’s how to tackle this conundrum:

Ideated Appeal

Believe that your idea is extraordinary — Clarity accompanies confidence

We should not feel less confident or down about ourselves or what we want to share. It is imperative to believe that what we want to share is really remarkable and relevant and therefore people will be interested. Most of the time, the fear that what we are going to share may be insignificant causes anxiety and therefore we mess up the sentence.

Pitch Perfect

Clarity come with voice audibility — Pick the perfect pitch

If we speak with clenched jaws then most often the words will get restricted and people listening to us may not even hear what we are saying. Everybody will listen, if you speak with the correct pitch depending upon the situation. If we have a group of people listening to us our pitch has to be consistent. If we are speaking to a few people our pitch has to be place-appropriate. Regular breathing exercise will be useful.

Hear Hear

Clarity comes with practice

All of us do not emerge as natural speakers. We have certain natural traits which have not helped us to develop our speaking capabilities. We need to consciously overcome this handicap and limitation by practising formal speeches and difficult pronunciations. In case you have stuttering or stammering issues speech therapy will help.
