Open House Exhibition held
BS Abdur Rahman University, Chennai, organised an ‘Open House and Exhibition’ in commemoration of the celebration of 31 years of its dedicated service to technical education on January 9 and 10. The exhibition attracted around 4,000 visitors from schools including students, parents and teachers. Innovative working models designed by students on different fields of engineering, projects that addressed societal needs and various technical exhibits were displayed at the exhibition. All-terrain vehicles and cars, robots for military and industrial applications, intelligent house security systems and power generation systems, house automation system and FM radio transmission, were among exhibits. Special lectures were also held.
Agni College hosts Science Fair for school students
The Science Society of India (SSI) in collaboration with Agni College of Technology, Thalambur, Tamil Nadu, organised a Science and Engineering Projects Fair for school students. Around 27 teams, winners of the various regional fairs, competed for the national-level final selection at the final event. The teams were allowed to prepare their stalls and present their projects to a team of expert-judges. The valedictory function of the National Fair, was held in the college recently. SRR Senthilkumar, Principal, welcomed the gathering. Janardhanan Menon, Director, presented mementoes to the guests. Former winner of Indian Science and Engineering Fair (National) and bronze winner in the Internationl Fair, Swathi Menon, shared her experiences. TS Natarajan, Professor, Department of Physics, IIT Madras, delivered the special address. The Chief Guest, P Iyamperumal, Executive Director, Tamil Nadu Science and Technology Centre, delivered the keynote address. Narayan Iyer, President, Science Society of India, also addressed the gathering. The first prize was won by Shree GK Dholakiya School, Rajkot. The second prize was awarded to NMWS High School, Mumbai. The third prize went to Vagadevi Vilas School, Bangalore. These three teams will participate in International Science, Energy Engineering Environment Olympiad in the US.
HITSEEE to be held on April 25 and 26
Hindustan University, Chennai, has announced the dates for the Hindustan Engineering Entrance Examination (HITSEEE 2015). The University said that the Online Entrance Examination for the streams of study including BTech and BArch will be held on April 25 and 26 at various centres in India. In Chennai centres, the exams will be held from April 25 to May 2. The applications for the entrance examination will be issued from today and can be downloaded from www.hindustanuniv.ac.in. The last date for the submission of the filled-in application form is April 30.
Madha Institute hosts Technical Exhibition
Madha Institute of Engineering and Technology, Chennai, conducted a national-level Madha Science and Technical Exhibition-2015 on January 9. S Peter, Founder and Chairman of Madha Group of Academic Institutions initiated the exhibition. Prakash Director, Madha Engineering College inaugurated the function. S Tamilarasi, District Educational Officer (DEO), Thiruvallur District, was the chief guest. More than 250 projects were exhibited. Around 15 schools from Chennai, Thiruvallur and Kancheepuram districts participated in the exhibition. Nearly 2,200 students from various other districts also visited the exhibition. Fr CM Victor Ramesh, Superintendent of RC Schools and Colleges, Thiruvallur, Tamil Nadu, delivered the valedictory address and awarded Madha Young Scientist-2015 award and cash prizes to the winners.
Over 600 students get placed in CTS
More than 600 students were recruited by Cognizant Technology Solutions (CTS) at the Tamil Nadu state-level placement programme organised by the Centre for University-Industry Collaboration (CUIC) of Anna University, Chennai, at Muthayammal Engineering College, Rasipuram, Tamil Nadu, on January 10. According to CUIC, this is the highest number of recruitment in Tamil Nadu State-Level Placement Programme conducted by Anna University so far. Prof K Gunasekaran, Secretary, Muthayammal Educational Trust and Research Foundation, addressed the gathering during the inaugural function. M Rajaram, Vice-Chancellor, Anna University and T Thyagarajan, Director of CUIC, were present during the inauguration.
National Youth Day and Pongal festivities held at Dr MGR Institute
The Department of Commerce of Dr MGR Educational and Research Institute, Chennai, celebrated the National Youth Day on January 12. Pongal celebrations and Thiruvalluvar Day festivities were also held on the same day. ACS Arunkumar, President of the institute, facilitated the event and took part in the ceremony. CB Palanivelu, Registrar; Dhanavel, IAS (retd); P Kalliyaperumal, Dean; GC Kothandan, Executive Director and CB Senthilkumar, Head of the Commerce Department, were present at the event which included students and professors.
SUPRA SAE INDIA inaugurated at Vel Tech
SUPRA SAEINDIA kickstarted at Vel Tech Dr RR and Dr SR Technical University, Chennai, which will also host the qualifying event of VIRTUAL SUPRA SAEINDIA 2015. A total of 167 teams of engineering college (UG/PG) students from various parts of India will be presenting their virtual design with detailed specifications to the judges. Around 70 judges from top automotive companies associated with SAEINDIA will be evaluating the virtual design of racing car. The inauguration of VIRTUAL SUPRA was held on January 9. Srivats Ram, Managing Director, Wheels India, was the Chief Guest. Muralikrishna Reddy, President, Institution of Engineers, was the Guest of Honour. Rangarajan Mahalakshmi Kishore, Chairperson and Managing Trustee, Vel Tech Technical University and Aravind Bharadwaj, President, SAEINDIA, were also present. Originally started in USA by SAE International as FORMULA SAE, such events are being organised in several countries like FORMULASTUDENT (UK), FORMULASTUDENT (Germany), FSAE Australasia, FSAE Brazil and FSAE Italy.
