Welcome to College

College is the best part of your life. You are now an adult. Whom you eat lunch with is not going to define who you are. Be prepared for this new voyage. It is in your hands to make the best of what is offered by college. Here are a few tips which may help you deal with the new environment.

Attend the orientation programme: All colleges organise orientation programmes where you are taken on a tour of the campus, introduced to seniors and faculty, to help you get familiar and comfortable with the new surroundings. If there is a counselling centre, the counsellor has a talk with the freshers. Don’t miss it.

Be an active learner: You are no longer a passive learner. You are expected to be independent, think critically, collect resource materials and literature, participate in classroom discussions and provide your own perspective and analysis.

Balancing academic and social life: It is your responsibility to balance social activities and your studies without compromising on the benefits of both. Once you set your schedules and prioritise your tasks, you will be able to enjoy without feeling guilty.

Making new friends: You will be exposed to students from across the country or even the world. You have to learn to be sensitive to different types of people. Develop good interpersonal relations in order to be successful and learn from people.

Make your own decisions: You will have to make your own decisions regarding food, clothes, studies, social activities, friends, timeouts, dating and relationships. You may take the help of your mentor. Analyse what will help you develop your potential.
