Resentment Among NC Cadres Over Ladakh Decision

Resentment among local leaders and cadres of National Conference has come to fore after the party left the Ladakh Lok Sabha constituency for its ally Congress.

The Congress has pitted party's district unit president Tsering Samphel against BJP nominee and former MP Thupstan Chhewang.

Both the candidates have started campaigning in the constituency and are trying to woo the voters.

Samphel has urged workers of both NC and Congress to work hard to ensure the alliance's victory in the seat.

However, the prospects of the candidates will be more clear after organisations based in Kargil announce their stand. Congress is backed by Imam Khomeini Memorial Trust (IKMT) in Kargil and the National Conference has the support of Islamia School.

Both these organisations have so far not made their position clear, fuelling speculations that they may jointly put up a candidate.

The Ladakh Lok Sabha constituency goes to polls on May 7.
