Aam Aadmi Party Declares its Star Campaigners for Gujarat

Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) today announced Prashant Bhushan, Ashish Khetan, Rajmohan Gandhi, Sanjay Singh, Yogendra Yadav and Pankaj Gupta as its star election campaigners for Gujarat. "AAP's star campaigners are national secretary Pankaj Gupta, New Delhi candidate Ashish Khetan, national spokesperson Yogendra Yadav, East Delhi candidate Rajmohan Gandhi, Lok Sabha PAC member Sanjay Singh and senior Supreme Court advocate Prashant Bhushan," AAP's Gujarat state spokesperson said.

The party's star campaigners would visit Gujarat during April 16 to 26 to bring out the reality of the state's development model, he said.

However, the Gujarat unit of the party was non-commital about its national convener chief Arvind Kejriwal's availability in Gujarat.

When asked if AAP's national leaders like Kejriwal, Manish Sisodia and Shazia Ilmi would visit the state or not, AAP's state convener said it cannot be said at this juncture. "We wish that they should come to the state, but as they are themselves busy campaigning we cannot make a statement at this juncture," AAP's state convener Sukhdev Patel said.

"Arvind Kejriwal, Manish Sisodia or Shazia Ilmi's demand is increasing from every state. They will spare time to come here in Gujarat if it is convenient for them," Patel said.

Earlier, AAP had announced that it would field its candidates from all 26 Lok Sabha seats in Gujarat.

However, after one candidate's nomination was rejected and another's candidature was withdrawn by the party, it will fight elections from on 24 Lok Sabha seats.

It may be noted that AAP chief Arvind Kejriwal had shown his willingness to contest against BJP prime ministerial candidate Narendra Modi during his "reality check" tour to Gujarat in March.

During his four-day visit to Gujarat, Kejriwal had accused the Modi government of favouring a few industrialists and claimed that only Adani as well as Ambani benefited from Gujarat's development model.

Kejriwal has also decided to take on Modi from Varanasi Lok Sabha seat in Uttar Pradesh, while in Gujarat's Vadodara Lok Sabha seat, AAP has fielded a mechanical engineer Sunil Kulkarni against BJP's PM nominee and All India Congress Committee (AICC) general secretary Madhusudan Mistry.
