Economy to Be Top Priority: Rajnath Singh

BJP president Rajnath Singh Monday said once voted to power, bringing back the economy on track would be the top priority of the NDA government under Narendra Modi.

Talking to reporters at the party headquarters here, he also claimed the "goodwill wave" for change flowing across the country would see the party getting 300 seats in the 2014 Lok Sabha election.

Rajnath Singh, who is contesting from Lucknow, said Uttar Pradesh will contribute the maximum number of seats to the BJP kitty and the party could better its previous record of 58 seats (1998 general polls).

Recalling the government of Atal Bihari Vajpayee, Rajnath Singh said the former prime minister was a "yatharthshastri" (realistic man) and not an "arthshastri" (economist) like Manmohan Singh who has spelt doom for the Indian economy.

Dishing out statistics, the BJP leader said investment in the state had shrunk and business opportunities dried up under the 10-year tenure of the United Progressive Alliance government.

He also assured the voters of Lucknow that several pending development projects, initiated during Vajpayee's term as city MP, would be fast tracked and completed.
