The West Bengal BJP on Thursday lodged a complaint with the Election Commission against state government officials for falsely framing Bollywood singer and its nominee for Srirampur Lok Sabha seat Babul Supriyo in a false arms case.

The party demanded immediate removal of the district magistrate of Hooghly and suspension of inspector-in-charge of Ranigunje police station, which registered cases under the Arms Act and also one accusing him of attempt to murder. Suprio said: “I am unfazed. I will go to the police station at night and file my version in writing. There is a limit to dirty politicking. I have been flooded with innumerable messages from my fans asking me to carry on my struggle and campaign.”

Supriyo’s poll campaign convoy was stopped at Ranigunje on last Saturday and three BJP workers beaten up allegedly by ruling TMC workers in front of the police. The four accused TMC men obtained bail, but Supriyo was charged with criminal cases.

State BJP president Rahul Sinha said: “The TMC has realized that it is losing ground and out of sheer fright resorting to violence. The state administration and police were registering false cases against our leaders and workers. “We demand immediate removal of the Hooghly DM and suspension of the IC of Ranigunje police station for falsely implicating Babul Supriyo in criminal cases. Their presence will affect free and fair polls,” he added.
