Actor Jai, who tasted success in films like 'Chennai-28' and 'Subramanyapuram', is still wondering what went wrong in' Vaamanan' - his first solo hero act. “I can’t figure out why it failed in the box office. Few people said the movie was good and others were not very happy with it. However, I am experimenting with different genres, and so I have done movies like 'Adhe Neram Adhe Idam', 'Goa', 'Aval Peyar Thamizharasi' and 'Arjunan Kadhali'. I am waiting for their releases before signing other projects,” says Jai, who is also likely to act in 'Rakkozhi', a Pushkar-Gayathri film. His second solo hero act in 'Adhe Neram Adhe Idam' will hit the screens next month where he plays a college student.
“Bhavana was likely to act in the film, but she was busy and I suggested Vijayalakshmi, my good friend from 'Chennai-28' days,” says the actor, who is an ardent fan of both Ajith and Vijay from his college days. “I entered into cinema only because I got an opportunity to act as Vijay’s brother. He treated me as his brother and it is the same with Ajith,” adds the actor, who wants to become a music director. “I learnt playing the keyboard and used to visit my brother Srikanth Deva in his studios,” says the actor, who is also a good friend of Simbu.
“When people say I look like Vijay, I think it has its advantages as well as disadvantages. Since my childhood days I’ve had the habit of posing like Vijay,” laughs the actor.
The actor feels 'Subramanyapuram' gave him more recognition and the credit goes to its director Sasikumar and cameraman Kathir. While 'Aval Peyar Thamizharasi', which is selected for the screening at Dubai International Film Festival in December, is strong in script, 'Arjunan Kadhali' is a complete commercial entertainer. The young actor’s role model is Ajith and says, “He is a big hero. He is humble and down-to-earth. I wish to be like him”
